Binomial Nomenclature

Somewhere in between naming Pluto and naming everything else, humans kind of stopped appreciating the beauty of actually getting to name things. People, I feel, used to have a good grasp on how to properly name things. Planets more specifically I guess.

I was reading something earlier on new planets, how scientists have taken all these pictures of a planet actually being formed somewhere, very far away from here. It’s a very young star and they’re calling it “LRLL”.

Now, I don’t know if that is just a temporary name or if they’re planning on keeping it that, but if they do… I’m going to be kind of disappointed. No scratch that, I’m going to be incredibly disappointed  Seriously, at least Pluto sounds like some thought was put into it! LRLL? Come on, we can do better. We deserve better names for the celestial bodies floating around us!

I should start some sort of campaign…
